Karateeeee! (hyya!)

August 15, 2006

I absolutely love love love this new Dunkin Donuts commercial. It features a soccah-mom and her 5 kids in the tot-totin’ mini van and the song goes something like, “Swimming! Soccer! Ballet! Oboe! And last but not least! KARATE! (hyya!)”

I mean the commercial is brillz on so many levels. First of all, how the eff did they get the family to look SO much alike in such an awesome, “psst…we’re not really actors” way. I love it, I need more of that in commercials, people. You. People. Who cast commercials.

Second, the first thought I have when watching this commercial is, “oh god, say it at the same time as the song. Oh god. Oh god!” because that’s what the kids look like. It’s like intense anticipation hidden behind a calm facade and… “KARATE! (hyyya!).”

I also get this feeling when I’m watching it that they were at take 50, in a moving (in transit) van, working with kids, when the directer, possibly named Scooter (23 years old), threw up his hands. “It’s one word, dudes! I mean, little dudes! All I’m, like, asking you to do is, like say… the one word… at the… same… time the song says… it. Aw man, I’m busted, I need a Smart Water.” The kids just couldn’t get it at exactly the same time, and shortly after Scooter finished his Smart Water and went out back to “clear his brain” (smoke a J) he walked off the set to join his uber hottie-boombottie girlfriend Vicki and left the editing to “you dudes.”

And what did they come up with? A perfect commercial, that’s what. I sing along to it, I look forward to seeing it, I watch the whole thing, and I remember what it’s for.

Dunkin D? How about Dunkin A+!

KARATE!!!! (hyyya!)
